Round the world cancellation cover question...

Hello all,
Have just put a deposit down on a round the world trip, 7 months starting in November. Obviously it's not a ryanair flight to Germany so I need cancellation cover, but what I'm struggling with is whether the insurance policy needs to be dated from now, or rather for the dates of the trip in order to make sure I have this cover.
Any help/thoughts/musings would be greatly appreciated!

Cancellation could potentially happen any time from now, so now's the time to do it!0

Perhaps I wasn't as clear as I could've been - I meant should the policy start date be asap, or the start date of the trip...?0

You should take a policy out to start from the day you leave the UK until the day you return. As soon as you have paid for the cover you will benefit from cancellation cover should you need to cancel the trip due to something that is insured on the policy0
