Garden Leave

I am in an affected pool of this round or redundancies and as i work part time i think it wil be me.
Our company don't do the finish friday get your redundancy money they pay you this over three months on garden leave then give you whats left after the garden leave is up. You can be made to work the three months.
If i were to get another job in the mean time the payments would then stop.

Does anyone else's work do this?

I've not heard of this before - but doesnt mean to say that other firms dont do it.

Sorry to hear that...its going to make it difficult to "get on with your life" having that restriction round your neck - quite apart from the money angle of how frustrating it would be to have to choose between a job offer and keeping your redundancy money (even though you already had it IYSWIM).

Is there any way you could take another job - should the chance arise - without your ex-employer knowing about it? (maybe a temporary one in a different location?). I dont know how these things work - because I've never heard of this before - but just a thought...

If you mean that you are once you have been told that you are going to be made redundant then rather than leave immediately with PILON, you instead have to serve out your notice period, during which you may or may not actually carry on coming in to work, then I think this is quite common.
