Hi
I personally would go for a NEC, never any problems with them and no coasters, really excellent drives, but possibly a bit dearer than you want to pay.
If I had to choose between the 2, then I would go for Sony only because I've had 1 Phillips and I sent it back, coasters all the time, I just didn't know if it was going to work or not.
But that's just my opinion.
Hope this helps
PS Been to the site found the Sony, but not the Phillips.0 -
NEC are very good, currently have one myself. I've always been impressed with LG's though and they score very well in any tests.
Sony have been a bit hit and miss with their recent writers, and I've not used a Philips since my cd-writer of about 5 years ago. Personally, I'd go for either an LG 4167, the NEC 4570 or the Pioneer 110. Each should cost you no more than £30 (or maybe just a pound or two over)."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
I had an early Sony CD DVD writer and it was awful. I've never made so many coasters as I did with that drive. I took it back after two weeks and got my money back. So just on that one experience I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole now.

Purely on the basis that SVP are one of the best outfits out there and Lowestonweb are awful, I'd plump for the Philips one.0

Any of these are great:

- NEC 4570
