Virgin have overcharged me can I do anything?

I'll make this as short as I can.............................

Virgin customer for 2 years. I decided to upgrade, after hours of negotiation
thought I got an okish deal of £37 per month + £75 one off install fee for V+ HD.

When I looked at my bill I had been charged £100 install and after more hours of phoning and complaining have been told they are not going to refund me :mad::mad:

I am so angry I wanted to switch providers but have also found out they have put me on a new contract!!!!!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrr :mad:

Has anyone got any advice or must I just shut up and put up?

Unfortunately if you didn't get it in writing, there's not a lot you an do. If I were you, I'd write a letter to their head office advising of what happened and that you're not happy with the outcome.

You should definitely dispute the install charge-ask them to review the tapes of your conversation if nothing was in writing.
But I don't understand why you are surprised that you are on a new contract? Upgrading/changing your package will always trigger a new contract.

The fee for an existing customer upgrading to the HD PVR is a £75 one-off for the first box, £99.95 for the second (if you are on upper service levels). So complain.

You're NOT on a new contract, you've simply restarted the 12 month minimum term, which you should have been told about at the time, even so they DO follow this up with a letter stating the costs and the new minimum term (usually before the install date) so you'd need to prove you had not received either to successfully argue you were misled.
