Ahhh, need help. Total plonker cooking Mexican

Options
Hello!

I can't cook to save my life. And I'm cooking myself a Mexican.... vegetarian fajitas. I have Quorn fajita strips, a fajita kit with the tortillas, spice mix and salsa, and some peppers and an onion.

So, first question: which part of the pepper do I use. It has loads of seeds inside... do I throw those and just use the fleshy outer bit?

Peel the onions - throw away the top part and the bottom part and slice. Use a sharp knife. Be careful.;)
Throw away (well compost) the stem from the pepper and the seeds and white bits from the inside.;)
Write to your MP and tell him/her that cooking should be taught properly in schools.:D

    HTH

Typed tongue in cheek BTW - enjoy your fajitas!

    awwwwww! Cute!

As Valli said. Do the quorn first, then the onion then the pepper at the last moment. Peppers should be hot and softened but still crunchy.

    I want fajitas now too!

I have seen the fajita ...

HOW TO CHOP AN ONION QUICKLY, SO IT DOESN’T MAKE YOU CRY

    http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/videos/1059/chopping-an-onion

Chop the top off the onion. Cut it in half. Peel it. Discard the brown layers until you are left with the white of the onion. Take one half of the onion and make about 3 or 4 horizontal cuts. Then cut down vertically, holding the onion together as you chop. Turn the onion with the flat end facing the knife and chop downwards with a slicing motion to create a finely chopped onion. Discard the root. Repeat the process on the second half, if required.

And this always gets people wondering how you did it ...

HOW TO CUT A ROUND SWEET PEPPER INTO STRAIGHT SLICES

Cut the top and bottom off but don’t throw them away. Remove and discard the middle bit with the seeds. Make a cut down it. Open it out. The round pepper is now a flat rectangular pepper. Cut into slices.

PS. Cut the stalk out of the top end and then chop it and the bottom end into tiny pieces. Add the chopped pepper to the dish.

  • Mmmmmmmmmm, thank you all.... they were delish! I even took photos (how nerdy!). Now I just await to see if I gave myself food poisoning :D

I heard once that if you have a running tap near to onions being chopped, it should stop watery eyes. Seemed to work for me!

Some of these methods work for some people, some don't. The above method is how kitchen assistants are taught to chop lots of onions. It keeps the cut faces (which is where the acid spray comes from) covered, and "gets the onion, before it gets you" - with the root end to hold everything relatively safely.
