What is the Average Elec useage for 100% elec 2 bed flat

Hi

Really hoping someone can help; I am in a battle with an ex lanlord and the elec company. To summarise I lived in a 2 storey 2 bed flat for 22 months. The boiler was broken and the only way I could get heating and hot water was to have the on peak switch on. This was only discovered on recieving big elec bills.

I am now trying to prove that this fault contributed to mammoth elec bills, to do that I need to find out avergae useage for 100% electric 2 bed 2 storey flat with 2 working adults - cannot find this info anywhere and elec companies wont provide.

HELP!!!!!!

Thanks heaps

    Yes. Very.

I am on my own in a 2 bed new flat and use approx 3,400kWh/year. However, i am VERY careful about usage, and do not need any heating at all.

I would guess around 9,000kWh would be average for 2 people in a 2 bed flat for a year.
  • Thats Great thank -you.

Now does anyone know where Ic an get official numbers like that as unfortunately my ex landlord will not accept unless qualified numbers???

We're completely different - large family, house and gas heating. We use about 5000kwh a year but remember when we moved into our last house and had storage heating, they used a phenomenal number of units overnight. Maybe 15,000kwh a year is possible if you have storage heaters?

I would say so yes, we are in a 3 bed bungalow, all electric - washing machine on every day, tumble dryer most days in the winter, 4 showers a day etc. We used just over 16,000 kwh last year (not done my sums yet for this year, but should be lower). So 15,503 KW for a 2 bed flat is a lot, yes.

    It's only a game

we used 9370 one year, 9670 the next year and 13500 the year after. We have a 2 bed flat. And we're moving out!!!

What was the exact problem with the boiler? I don't follow you? Is it Economy 7 heating and you were having to use normal heating (at peak rate hours) because it wasn't working at night?

Did the problem with the boiler get resolved whilst you were there?

PS - I had a fault with a boiler and a resulting high electricity bill - electricity company were worse than useless and landlord conveniently acted dumb or denied responsibility at all points. Good luck!

  • Thank this is all really helpful - now dont quote me on the boiler problem as its not my area, the boiler was supposed to heat up over night and provide hot water all day, if we needed additional hot water ie guests staying lots of showers etc there was an on peak switch you could flick on for an hour or so during the day. Without this switch on it never heated up, the landlord came out with electrician s a few times and admitted there was a problem but didnt want to spend money to get if fixed - so we moved out.

If you had to heat water for two people during the day on Econ 7, it would be more expensive than doing it on off-peak but wouldn't use any more kwh. Certainly not the numbers you're talking.

IMO, the three most likely causes of your high number of units are 1) you had storage heaters 2) you had electric heaters used a lot or several used less often or 3) you immersion heater was 'on' all the time even though it was off because of a faulty thermostat.
