Anti dog fouling advice?

Hi all

Having real problems with dogs messing on the pavement outside my house. Have informed the council & they have put notices up to little effect, unfortunately.

Are there any ideas out there for remedies that may make the dogs stay away from the area due to a particular smell, etc?

Any advice gratefully received.

  • Try the council again, they may have a dog warden. It really is something that you should not have to put up with.

Otherwise,if you see who it is, scoop it up follow them and put it on their doorstep. Place a small sheet of paper on it, light it, ring the bell and run away. With a bit of luck they will open the door and stamp the fire out. Although I used to do this as a kid on a local council scheme, it is most certainly wreckless and illegal and could get you arrested and sent to prison.

Thought about putting a dummy camera up, and a small notice, you are being monitored, the notice would be for the owners of the dogs ;)

Plumb1's idea is really good - but only if the dogs are accompanied by someone who can read.

My Dad used to spray diluted ammonia (buy this from Boots) on his bin bags to stop animals ripping open the bags - they hate the smell, apparently. I've used it (neat) on a tissue inside my bin bags (I can never be bothered to squirt the bags every day until the binmen come) and it's certainly reduced the problem - Maybe a few drops on the pavement might help? I'm almost sure there are health risks associated with ammonia (for humans and animals), so take care with it.
