Dog ate a cotton hankie

Did you post this on the Labrador Forums as well?
Go with the advice given on there, he's likely to be absolutely fine as Labs tend to enjoy eating things like socks, pants and apparently hankies with no ill effects.
If the pup hasn't pooed by the close of play tomorrow, or starts vomiting, then give the vet a call0 -
If it doesn't come through in a few days, then I would urge you to go to the vets ... I remember the first operation I was present for - a rottweiler who had gone very very thin and talk about the stench from hell when we opened its bowel up ... anyway, the vet removed a vileda mop head (the blue and white ones) and a number of handkerchiefs.
It had been obviously been sicking up food because the mop and hankies were causing a blockage. Because it was an outdoor guard dog, able to roam a large plot of land, the owner didn't know about it being sick and only brought it in after it started to lose weight and a neighbour told him she had seen it being sick.
Some things can pass through with no problems ... it's a case of keeping a close eye on what comes through but as I say, I wouldn't give it more than two days ... if it hasn't come through then I'd definitely go see the vet - it's best to be safe than sorry.0 -
Keep a close eye on him - I know generally these things pass through ok, but very recently a friend of mine's 4 year old dog died suddenly after experiencing stomach pain - the vet believed he had probably eaten some cloth or a plastic bag.0

My dog ate a shoe box full of crayons once... Made the garden interesting for a while!A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

The little spaniel I fostered nearly died after swallowing a stone. It was only because I knew his habit of picking up stones that had me ringing the vets for an emergency appointment when he started being sick early one morning that saved his life. By the time he started vomiting the stone he had swallowed had completely knotted in his intestine.
I would be concerned about a cotton handkerchief as it could ball up and cause a serious amount of harm0 -
This reminds me of a story the OH told me about his chocolate lab years ago.
He loved to eat things and one day when OH took the dog out the dog did his poop and his mums tights came out, and so he had to stand on the tights and let the dog walk forward to help with the removal :rotfl:It sounds so funny to visualize this, pooor pupLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -

I bet the dog wondered what on earth was coming out
Similar thing happened to me, the dog had eaten something 'material' and it kinda got stuck half way out, he was trying to wipe his backside on the grass and smeared his poo all over his back end in the process - I had to bath him and pull the offending item out while he was distracted - I don't know what it was, I wasn't going to inspect it too closely !0 -
I wouldn't eat your lunch while reading this
My dog once ate a bit of string or something (we didn't realise till it came out) and all the pooh formed around it and it go stuck coming out and my dog ran along the canal path with it half hanging out trying to get rid of it so in the end much to the digust of my brother and people walking past I had to use a pooh bag to pull it out gently.0 -
I would have pmsl if I saw that :rotfl::rotfl:0

wouldn't worry too soon. my Lab has a habit of liberating socks, hankies etc. he lets them stew for a few days and then chucks them back out. Not that you would want to use them. the first time he did it, we hadn't even realised he had pinched the hankie ( out of someone's pocket !!)0
