Prohibition didn't work for alchohol, why should it work for any other harmful drug? Recent UN conference was told by experts that the war on drugs was wrong and failing, so they have just signed up for ten more years of the same. Brilliant.
Always wanted to say this: '....And in my day weed was twice as illegal and full of camel dung, but it never did us any harm!!!'0 -

I'd be more worried about the physical and mental health effects of the steak bake to be honest.0 -
The simple reason why it there's noe desire for the Government to change things, is 'cos they do rather well from the income created, already!!
Here's how it works...
Low life breaks into your house, steals the kids X box, for a quick hit.
Sells it for £20 to an organized dealer in stolen goods, or a 'bloke in the pub'.
Bloke in the pub needs to have earn't £30 before tax, to buy it, Government already £10 in profit.
You need to earn £200 to buy a new one, Government gets another £70.
The store needs to pay VAT, on slae of each one - another £40 to Government.
So just the one fix, made the Government over £100, easilly
!!
Then the levels through the supply of drugs, up to Mr Big, will have VAT costs, all the way up to, say, his £70000 Range Rover, (£10000 VAT) which he paid for with cash (laundered or otherwise) will have chance of reclaiming this tax.
So no need to change thigs, we're doing OK, just as it is!!
CRAZZZZZY!!

Where do you stand on crimilising alcohol and tobacco? Two far more damaging drugs for both personal health and society as a whole.
I don't use illegal drugs by the way, just interested in your argument.
In my draconian view tobacco should be reserved for the purpose of extracting medicinal nicotine. It's far too late to criminilise it - even if it wasn't such a moneyspinner for the govt there are ethical implications to branding a large sector of the community as criminals just because they are addicted to the evil weed.
I completely agree wth Liam Donaldsons stance on alcohol, it should be priced out of the reach of those least likely to drink responsibly. Anyone who works in A&E can tell you that a very high proprtion of those treated are there as the result of alcohol, even if they haven't been drinking themselves. (I am a very moderate drinker).
Those that argue for legislating drugs are entitled to an opinion, where this is unsupported by any scientific rigour it remains just that - unvalidated opinion.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
