Hi, does anyone here know much about power supply units for computer peripherals?! The power supply of my ADSL modem (Belkin) went bust and I am writing this now, using another Power Supply with similar output rating that happens to have the same size connector. Is this going to bust the modem eventually, or should I not need to worry? The specs are:
Original:
Make: DVE, Output: DC 12V, 1.25 A
Replacement:
Make: DVE (from a Maxtor HD). Output: DC 12V, 3A
is the 1.75A difference going to kill the modem eventually?! Works fine right now!
(Don't be afraid to get technical...!) thanks

I wouldnt have said it will do any harm. But I may be told otherwise.
The Amps is just how much power the unit needs to run under load (kind of) so giving it more amps than needed shouldnt be a problem and 1.75amps isnt that far out.....
I'd just make sure both the power supply and adsl modem doesnt get too warm. Just in case.0

No problem at all. Just because the PSU is rated at 3A it doesn't mean it will supply that much. It will only supply what the device using it actually consumes. In fact, you may find the new PSU is more reliable because it is being asked to supply less than it is capable of therefore it will run cooler.
