Don't go for the cheapest cover you can find; make sure you have full cover for at least £5m on medical cover and that "repatriation" in the event of death or injury is included.
Don't worry about the personal possessions cover - they tend to make a deduction for wear and tear and only cover you for up to £200 or £300 per item - not enough to cover an I phone or anything you may buy on holiday. Instead, make sure you have cover in your home insurance.

Good advice Oscar, also if you are likely to travel again in the next twelve months you may find its only a few more pounds to arrange an annual multi trip travel insurance policy which is normally the case if any of the trips are to the USA0

Tesco have a 'one adult and kids (under 18) go free' travel insurance...medical is only 2 million though and not the 5 million that you said Oscar
