Car dealers don't take me seriously...

I certainly talk to my fiancee about which car I'm going for etc, but ulitmately it's down to me, as it's my car and me that'll be driving it. Similarly when she's looking for a car I'll offer advice, but it's entirely her decision on what to buy.
If it were one car between two of us that would be an entirely different story. But I don't think we're unusual in having a car each.0 -
Yes it's a generalisation and not always true, but i suppose on a busy day they have to play the percentages. The number of sales lost in the way you describe doesn't outweigh the number lost by allowing other customers to wander off.
It can backfire, as in the case of the poor young lad who get several strips torn off him by Mrs Throbbe in front of his manager. :rotfl:
I would try to go and see a car on a weekday away from lunchtimes as you are far more likely to get decent service and a test drive (as others have said, call first).
+1
I tend to phone in advance, and make an appointment to see them - as you say, weekdays are best.
I am also upfront and give them the buying signals they require to qualify me - 'i am ready to buy this week', 'this is the type of car i am looking for', 'i am the decision maker in this process', 'this car is within my budget if we can work out a deal'.
Then play serious hardball when it comes to the negotiations.0
