SCOTTISH POWER MPAN SCAM EXPOSED

SCOTTISH POWER IS CIRCUMVENTING THE RIGHT TO HAVE YOUR ELECTRICITY SUPPLIED BY WHICHEVER COMPANY YOU CHOOSE.

There have been thousands left stranded with pre pay meters and no way of switching supplier to the one of their own choosing.

HOW DO THEY MANAGE THIS?

Scottish Power simply split the supply to your home and issue two Mpan (meter registration) numbers. It’s as simple as that! There are very few power supply companies that can deal with properties with two Mpans. This means you cannot choose the provider you want, only the ones who can handle two separate supply numbers (I have found only one to date).

WE NEED CHOICE AND COMPETITION IN TOUGH ECONOMIC TIMES.

Scottish Power removes your choice. The fact that they issue two numbers isn’t exactly advertised! Indeed, when they are caught out they often put this down to ‘ERRONEOUS TRANSFER’ to some other unnamed (imaginary company). They will then seem to ‘bend over backwards’ to accommodate your problem (of their making) but will not reveal the fact that you have two Mpan numbers.

This only becomes apparent when they fail to appease you with protracted ‘investigations’ and false ‘explanations’, sometimes coupled with hush money.

THIS HAS BEEN EXPOSED BEFORE.

Like BT though (who like to charge customers £200 connection fees that should not be charged when there is a ‘dead line’ in the house – i.e. there was at one time a BT line), they have ignored adverse publicity and ploughed on, trapping you with their schemes and conning you out of choice and cash.

IF YOU ARE A SCOTTISH POWER CUSTOMER YOU SHOPULD BE QUESTIONING THEM TO FIND OUT IF YOU, LIKE THOUSANDS OF OTHERS, ARE TRAPPED IN THE SAME WAY. IF YOU FIND YOU’VE BEEN ISSUED WITH TWO, COMPLAIN; THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THEM IS BY VOTING WITH YOUR WALLET AND SWITCHING SUPPLIER. THE MORE COMPLAINTS THAT ARE MADE, THE GREATER THE CHANCE OF THIS SCAM BEING EXPOSED.

2 Mpan sites are not exclusive to Scottish Power. Hydro do it with THTC, Southern with Superdeal, Flexiheat, Eon have heatwise.

Oh and no other supplier can properly support them.

I'm with Rian on this one, properties with two MPAN's are commoner than you think, particulary up in Scotland.

Scottish Power call it 'Comfort Plus', most properties with credit meters will have two meters, one for each MPAN...the fun and games tend to occur in properties with Key or Token meters, no-one wants to feed two meters so a meter that can charge for simultaneous consumption of domestic and heating is fitted. Both MPANS are tagged to this meter type, look for 'Two-Element' on Token meters, or '2E' on Key meters. Credit and Pre-pay meters in these systems also tend to have cables up the ying-yang!!

Your accusing Scottish Power of conning people, pretty liabelous if you can't 100% prove it. Even worse your recomending people to change supplier if they have two MPANS, a sure-fire way of causing huge billing problems if they do manage to do it.
