Help with Garden Pearl tomato plants!

Hi all,

I am currently growing Garden Pearl tomato plants from seed, they are currently about 6inches high and I need to know what to do next. They are growing upright at the mo' but I was planning on putting them into hanging baskets and pots soon, will they trail by themselves? Do they need support? Do they still need their tips pinching?

Your help on this would be greatly appreciated, this is my 1st year with toms, so I'm excited but a lil confused!

Thanks, you're great! :T

No support, no pinching out, no nothing, stick em wherever you want, just remember to keep them warm.

I grow these in the deep rose pots, i find the depth of the pot maintains the plant very well as it grows. I never pinch them out i just let them trail by themselves. I have grown them for about 5 years this way now and am constantly amazed at how many toms you can get from such small plants.

How deep/wide are the pots you grow them in and what compost do you use? I haven't grown them for a few years, but I have some on the go now.
I have grown tumblers every year and usually do them in one of those big growbags, or a small one with bottomless pots on top of it. But I like the idea of keeping them in separate big pots and they will be easier to take and and check individually for any problems.

Given up on tumblers because I'm not impressed enough with the taste, so back to GP it is!

Would this be the same for the currant varieties?

The pots i use are recycled patio rose pots so about 6" diameter and 10" deep.
I usually use either 50% B&Q or Wickes compost mixed with 30% coir, 15% sharp sand and 5% perlite. Those are rough estimates as i just mix together rather than measure.

I have no idea, unless you tell me the name of the tomato you are talking about.
