What else can I do at the same time? is there anything I could cook at such a low temperature?
Will only be a little bit of room though I think as will be cooking shoulder of pork (donnie brasco-HFW meat book) so taking up most of the oven
Thanks

Pavlova or meringes do well at that temperature but they may take on the flavour of the pork.

If you have enough room you could make a couple of slow cooker dishes in that time using your oven as the slow cooker.

If the pork is taking up most of the space in the oven perhaps just try to squeeze in some vegetables that can be roasted slowly as they could be eaten with the pork or be frozen easily for using at a later date.

Thanks, I was thinking pavlova but pork flavoured meringue might not be best :D
Will see how much room I have once I buy the shoulder and try to fit it in!

id do a tray of tomatoes, cut in half, bit of garlic, salt, oil, etc and slow roast them till they are all uncious and yummy.. particularly if you have a source of lots of on the turn tomatoes that need using up!!

they are nice cold, or as a side dish, or mash up for pasta sauce...

    HTH!!

Old fashioned Rice Pudding. If you cover it tightly with foil it should help stop the transfer of flavours from the pork.

Have you done this before? I ask because when I tried the Nigella version of pork cooked for hours and hours my oven cut out after 9 hours (may have been 6) -fortunately I was in the kitchen at the time and was able to turn it on again. The pork was a roaring success but I was so annoyed that my oven would not allow me to decide how long to have it on. I cooked it overnight and had to get up extra early to put the oven on for a third time:rolleyes:

I read my cooker manual from to cover to cover to see why the oven cut out after a certain time, but no mention was made of it. I assume it is some nannying safety feature.

Anyway, if you haven't tried this before keep an eye on it. It was absolutely fantastic though;)
  • I'm probably way out here because i don't cook meat, but couldn't you cut it into smaller pieces and cook for less time?

using that much gas in one day would make me weep :(

Oh no, that would completely miss the point of the dish:) . Of course a piece of pork doesn't need that long in the oven but cooked long and slow the meat is just gorgeous.
