How can i incoperate Red into the theme?

Pack it in!!! How can you say each to their own and then say "do you really want bridesmaid in black" . Black is stunning, is very striking in photos too.
How about red cravats or a hint of red in the flowers maybe. Loads of possibilities to add an accent colour when you've black and white as a base.
Working as a florist for a number of years, you would be amazed at how many brides were secretly superstitious but knew nothing about the old superstitions regarding weddings. We had orders changed last min because the brides old aunt mentioned that red and white meant 'blood and bandages' etc.
I think she made a valid point, black is deemed to be unlucky, whether you beleive in it or not, there is no need to be so damn rude to someone because you have taken personal offence on someone elses behalf.
OP, are your 'men folk' having button holes? Pick a nice (dark or rich rather than plae) red rose or mini gerbera button hole with some modern crisp greenery will look great with black suits, without being funerally. Your bridesmaids could have a few red flowers in their boquets (I'd not have them holding a single red rose though). Or a few hints of red on your tables. Because the red will stand out amongst the black and white, you should keep the red to a minimum. Personally, I'd give the red button holes to the guys and throw a small red rose onto each table at the reception and leave it at that.0 -

Actually, I didn't read this as insulting, I read it as in jest, then Alfiesmum is bombarded with insults!! Good on you hun for keeping your cool and staying on thread.:T0 -
I could be wrong here but I thought the idea of white/ivory/cream being worn by the bride only came in post Queen Victoria's wedding before that the bride would be made a new dress (to set her up in her new life) and it would be any colour. I married in a deep blue, my Mam married in black (her uncle had died the week before) and she has been married for 60 years! If you are not superstitious then go for it, black and white on their own can look stunning and you will have the guests in a variety of colours so my two pennorths is stick to simplicity and have a lovely day!Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup

Yes Dragon - you are right. The idea of a wedding dress which could only be worn once is releatively new, so to speak. Only VERY wealthy people could afford to have a dress specially made. Also, with weddings now being held in all sorts of venues the choices for what to wear are extensive. I have recently been to a wedding where the bide wore a dress with a deep red bodice (a very luxurious colour, and in velvet) with a cream satin skirt. It did look good.
And if the bridesmaids dresses are to be in a variety of styles the idea of having an accent colour for accessories should 'tie' them all together beautifully.lindaatno9 wrote: »Alfiesmum is bombarded with insults!!
If you (or anyone you know) is handy with a needle OP then you could buy a large swatch of fabric and make the accessories. I was going to suggest Dolly Bags and stoles for the bridesmaids - but realise it's a summer wedding...might still work though...Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Black is "very in" this season. Many brides are really considering their bridesmaids now and choosing colours/styles which can be worn again. My opinion is red stoles would be very "in your face" if the OP is only wanting a hint of red to lift the overall look. Ties, cravats and flowers are a way to introduce the strong red without it completely overpowing the black/white theme.0

Yeah - and the fact that it's a summer wedding would make stoles less of an option IMHO...but just adding the idea to help the OP sift through suggestions. And wondering IF the bridesmaids are choosing dresses in different styles (although this isn't clear from the OPs post) how they can be brought 'together' as a group.
And MUST go and check on the wedding where the bride said she was planning to do her own catering...now THAT is brave:eek:Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

I was married in red and my bridesmaid wore champagne satin trousers with a black bodice.
I'm not sure about 'Get married in RED, you will wish you were DEAD'. Depends on how windy DH is under the duvet I guess.
There are so many traditions about though, interesting to read through.
Oh and in ye olde times, the bridesmaid wore the fancy frock so that the bride would not be kidnapped! :rotfl:0 -
i was gonna plan my own catering.. then my mother said she wont have it.. and had ''found a caterer''.. all because she doesnt want me to have what she terms as ''a council house wedding''... ..hahaha.. just gotta love the new meanings she comes up for a budget wedding..
but yea, try having some red jewelry or underwear :P .. im sure the groom will approve.. the odd red ribbon in the bridemaids or flowergurls hair works well to.. o and if u have red, white and black.. i suggest if u partial to the fake bake or the crispin beds.. to lay off them for a while.. u dont want to clash with the colours.. be bold and be naturally beautiful with your own skin tone..:exclamati:female:choose life, choose to save money, choose to search higher and lower, choose martin lewis and rock the F**k on!! \\mm// :female::exclamati0 -
OMG!!! I've just been sent as private message from someone (thanks very much hun), to let me know that Valli, and Rose pink actually came over from another thread, only to have a go at ME, because Kaz was spouting about it on another (flylady?) thread. You people are crazy!! :rotfl: :rotfl:
There's actually a link, back to this thread, and they are openly admitting over there, that they've put in a bit for Kaz, my goodness! You're off it! Why deliberately start an argument, when you don't even bother with this forum hardly??:rotfl: What a way to go on. :rotfl: This has made my day, you crazy crazy peeps!! Wow!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:
Seeing as you said what I had said was well put then how does that constitute me having a go at you? I did not come here for that purpose and I did not have a go at you. I just pointed out that you seemed to have misunderstood what Kaz said and explained what (I thought) she had meant.
We often point out interesting threads to each other and go and look at them, and post on them if we want to. That's what happened today.
Now this is getting quite boring so let's leave it."Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things, but just look what they can do when they stick together."
