Humax PVR-9300T-Query on Output Res

I have just bought one of these to be used with a Panasonic TX32 LXD85 TV-this is an HD Ready TV (720 res)
I'm connecting to the TV with an HDMI lead, but can anyone advise what res I should set when on the HDMI output (720 or 576), as obviously the signal input is SD only?
If I set it higher, does that mean that the TV has to downscale it again?
I can't see any real difference in the output between the two, so this is mainly a theoretical question I guess.
BTW I would thoroughly recommend this unit, the setup is a cinch and the remote and interface are very well designed-makes such a change from the 'toy' remote on my last Freeview box.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
