Yep. France running protectionist cartels. Germany setting Euro interest rates to suite itself. EE exporting their criminals. Spain left to deal with the Moors (again). Italy a basket case. Ireland going down the same way as Iceland. Hopefully we'll see a break up the EU within 5 years.

On the positive side, the EU have succeeded in making progress in clamping down on tax havens.
Plus some may argue that it's nice to have the option of escaping all this British debt.

Whilst I pretty much agree with your views, the fact that you have now brought up "immigration" Chopper, this thread will now just degenerate into a slanging match between pro and anti immigration, its like actors/actresses in the theatre mentioning the "Scottish Play".Its a deff NO-NO.. Which is a shame as there was plenty to debate about on the rest of the EU and protectionism.....:D

There is method in my madness , subtle that it is , that theres a link between anti-immigration , the behaviour of france overall with eu laws , and protectionism itself.

I am suggesting that one indeed goes hand in hand with the other , in the case for france , and the richer eu having GB as a place for them to go rather than be their "burden".

I believe that all the wealthy EU countries have problems with migration numbers. If this was not the case, why do other European countries wish to slow Turkish accession whilst the UK promotes it?

Outright protectionism is dangerous however there has to be a measure of pragmatism. The French are looking after their own citizens first. That is their duty and entirely the right thing to do. It is a pity the UK government has so little concern for the welfare of its own citizens.

How is clamping down on Tax Havens a good think for the normal, dishonest citizen going about his business?

At least the French government gives a damn about the people they are supposed to represent, and puts the interests of their citizens ahead of everybody else.

Yeah after they take to the streets to burn other peoples cars , blockade legal imports , or put some shoes in machines to get a day or two off.

Is it just me that finds it funny that historically the french only fight their authorities and win , unless we count the corsican of course.
