Hi,
Its all down to the 'load' a standard 13 amp plug will only work with a maximum load of around 3kW (3000 watts). The baby belling had 2 hob rings at around 1.2kW each and an oven or grill at about 1.5kW so when you had the plug in version you could only use 1 hob with the oven or both hobs and no oven at the same time.
So basically it would be impossible to get a cooker with 4 electric burners on the hob and an oven all to work using a 13 amp plug connection.
I hope this explains it.0 -
13Amps @ 230Volts = 2990 Watts (documented supply voltage is 230V single-phase)
13Amps @ 240Volts = 3120 Watts (commonly quoted for historical reasons and also more likely to be the true supply voltage, again single-phase)
1000 Watts = 1 Kilowatt
You can get an ovens AND hobs that will work from a 13A suuply (ie. a plugtop) but with the ovens you lose slightly on performance compared to higher load 'hardwire' versions.
It is simply a case of choosing the one that suits your situation.0
