Test Drive Help Please

Im getting a car on Monday as a 24 hour test drive. They are travelling 140 miles to drop the car to me at 12 on Monday and will pick it up again same time Tuesday.

I dont want to sound stupid but could anyone clear up a few queries for me?

Firstly how will the guy who is bringing me the car get back to where he has come from if he leaves the car with me?

Secondly, do i have to fill the car up with petrol before i give it them back or do i not have to worry about this?

Thanks anyone who can help me

I wouldn't worry about how the guy gets back, that is his problem, although he will probably have a second guy following him to take him back, re petrol it will probably have very little in it, but if you return it with the same amount in as when you got it then there should not be any arguments, although if there is a lot in it then it may be part of your test drive, ask the guy when he gets there if you are really concerned.

  • Ask them about petrol. Seeing as it's a test drive, I'd expect them to let you use as much as you want (as if you're on a normal 20 minute one or whatever) but seeing as it's 24 hours, they might ask you to stick in what you use - e.g. if it's 3/4 full, make sure it's around that when you hand it back. Don't worry about getting it spot on, just so long as it's around the same and you'll be fine.

As for the person driving your car, he'll either get public transport back or he'll come in convoy with someone else. I had a hire car once following an accident and it came in a twosome with a chap following in a Renault. When they handed the car over to me, the bloke who'd been driving "my" car got in the other one and they left.

Don't worry about it, though. Just concentrate on getting the most out of the test drive. Just out of interest what type of car is it and how difficult was it to get them to agree to a 24 hour loan period?

Have you also confirmed the insurance sitution - sometimes a hefty excess is placed upon you - best check anything you sign!!

Regarding extended test drives, most makes now offer this facility. It might be worth registering on line & taking any of their in house magazines, they publish.

Ford do something called Talkback - gets extra special offers/compatitions, without ever owning a Ford!!
