Credit card fraud help

Options
Hi i recently had been a victim of credit card fraud. This happened last year nov... the credit card company said they would investigate which they did but it took a couple of monhs,

They have reversed most of the fraudulent transactions except one...
their reason is that they merchant held a lot of info on me ie my name address and bank account details.. they have said that i will am liable as the merchant has proved that it was me apparently

I have told them AGAIN that this was fraud and i did not make this online trasaction.. They again keep on saying.. how come the merchant has so much info about me.. i have told them that my info must have been stolen as recently i have had a chequebook stolen from my bank in the post.

The credit card company have said i am liable

What can i do??? I have gone to the police and got a crime reference number... but they say i am still liable

Hope someone can help

thanks

  • You could try watchdog, http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/

Or send a letter to the directors of the credit card company explaining your situation in detail
  • A lot depends on the circumstances of the transaction, which is why I would suggest getting a legal opinion.

I would take all the details and copies of any correspondence along to the Citizens Advice Buerau. Alternatively, if you have access to a free legal helpline (e.g. bundled with your house insurance policy, or offered by a trade union or employer), then you could try them for some quick advice.

I would also ask the card company to provide a copy of the voucher (i.e. the credit card receipt). Sometimes there is a charge for this, but most card companies will provide them free where a transaction is in dispute. Having this can help a great deal when you go for legal advice (but isn't always needed to get the ball rolling).

For what it's worth, I was notified today that my card details had been used fraudulently. The woman at the card company was very nice, and just asked me to confirm which transactions were genuine and which weren't. I get a new card within 7 days, and that's it. The end. Just goes to show the difference in customer service, I suppose. (of course, I didn't ask them what I'd do without my stoozing card for a whole week! ).
