Can Ebico really halve my gas bill?
Hi everyone, new to the forum here.
Having just browned my trousers after recieving my dual fuel bill from Npower i'm looking to change. Here's the breakdown of my last bill:
Gas - 19/11/08 to 14/03/09 (4 months)
4553 k/wh
£306.71 inc VAT
Electricity - 18/11/08 to 13/02/09 (3 months)
871k/wh
£126.64
I prefer to pay my bills monthly or quarterly upon reciept. Went on Ebicos website and for the same 4553 k/wh of gas they only wanted £167.32 and for the electricity it was £111.05
Can this be right? Running this through on Uswitch they only work out about £30-40 cheaper

You are a 'victim' of NPower's seasonal weighting(sculpting)
For gas you cannot make a comparison between Npower and Ebico on the strength of one winter quarter's consumption.
For you to get an accurate comparison between Ebico and any other company you need to consider your annual consumption.
This particularly applies to Npower because of their tariff structure and discounts applied after 12 months.
That said, switch to Ebico!!!!!!0 -
Note that nPower use sculpting on their gas supply so you get charged more higher rates in winter than summer. But then you'll probably use a lot less gas in summer so you might well be paying the higher tier1 rates for gas in summer for the entire consumption.
Sculpting does not apply to electricity.
Note that the prices on the ebico website are those effective from 30 March 2009, so you would have paid marginally more. Ebico, unlike nPower, have announced reductions in unit prices of both gas and electricity.
Part of the reason for the smaller saving than you might have at first expected is that uSwitch tries to seasonally adjust consumption when a winter quarter only is input; if you use less, the savings will obviously be less"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
