I went to pick up my Friday prescription from Morrisons today (Jacobs Creek brut). The memsahib had warned me of some increases but I had not been prepared for this. The price had risen by over 50% in a matter of weeks! Presumably this is due sterling devaluation. No pain relief on the income side either (zero pay rise again this year). I found a bottle of Chateau Acetone for £4.50 so the evening was not a disaster. The whole episode however has left me shaken. I have kept a stiff upper lip throughout the credit crunch but there are limits. Are we to be priced out of essentials?

But...but.... aren't we in deflationary times ??, surely things should be getting cheaper...... oh hang on, it's Clown who says there is a danger of deflation, hence him/BoE reducing rates to 0%, it's funny, the only thing I see that is deflationary are house prices, funny that hey, anyone would think Crash wants houses to go back up in price, while the rest of the country burns. It will come back to haunt him at some point as interest rates go up sharply to deal with our devalued currency.

I suggest others do what I do when I'm feeling down or pi**ed off with life, think that there is always someone worse off than yourself..... the same person always comes to mind for me... Sarah Brown, poor cow.

You mean like everything Blair did has come back to haunt him?

They are all like Fred Godwin after they leave office - enjoying their fat pensions and continuing to have a laugh at our expense.

I do agree, however I think Brown's legacy will haunt him, he will be remembered as fondly as Chamberlain.

Well, anyway, back to wine...

Interest rates may be at 1%, Sarah Brown may be married to horrible old Gurning Gordon, but at the end of the day we need to track down life's essentials (wine and chocolate, for a start) at the best prices. Priorities, priorities.

I loathe Morrisons, but I do admit their wine department isn't half bad. However, it's a case of grabbing bargains as they pop up, at whatever supermarket. I hate to mention Costco again, but if you like the very popular, heavily oaked (Lindemans, JC) types, the C place is where to go. And OL is £4 off a half-case this week too. :D
