Eon Energyonline Extra - the best option?
Options
I've just changed to Eon's Energy Online Extra Saver 12.
Electric
First 225 kWh per quarter is 25.02
Additional are 10.66
Gas
First 670 per quarter is 6.53
Additional is 3.55
Also
6% direct debit discount
2% dual fuel discount
6% online discount
Could anyone tell me if this sounds like a good deal? I know it's the best deal with Eon. I like Eon, but every time our bills come, we're more in the red and I want to be sure that we're getting a good deal.

Prices vary region to region, as do discounts. So you will have to use a comparison site where you enter your postcode, current usage figures/tariff, then you will be able to compare tarrif from other energy suppliers.
Although if you are always in debit, you may have to increase you monthly DD payments. Do not leave a large debit to accrue, you will have to pay it off at some point.0 -
Hi DemiDee,
E.ON have now brought out EnergyOnline Extra Saver Version 13, have you checked this out to see if it is any better for you.
You can always ask them to do a comparison for you to see if it will save you.
jimexbox, your absolutely right :T the Direct Debit does sound like it needs to be increased, ask for this to be re-calculated you can include any debit in to the monthly payments, this avoids having to pay it all of at once.
Hope this helps.

Many thanks Helena. We can't afford to increase our DD any more (already gone up like crazy in the last few years). This is why we're trying to ensure the best possible deal. Another Eon rep, Malc, was kind enough to recommend the above product, so I'd assumed that Energy Saver 12 was our best option with Eon. If ES 13 is now out and is cheaper, then I'd rather go onto that before our changeover (April 1st, believe it or not!). I've just PM'd Malc to see what the situation is.0

No problem, Malc is here and he will get back to you asap!
Thanks

Sure you must find the best tarrif, but the easiest way to reduce you bills is change your use of energy. I reduced the amount of gas I used this winter by 28% and electricity 12%, despite it be a cold winter.
Luckily Eon give me the shock I needed before last winter, by way of a hefty increase in my DD which give me all the impetuous I needed. I changed tariffs, dumped Economy 7 (previous owner was on it, no idea why) and I bought a jumper and a quilt for the evening in front of the TV. Now I think before the boiler gets turned on and the thermostat gets set at 20, no higher.
I new exactly what my gas & electric bill were before I even received an email from Eon. Takes the stress out of things.0 -
Sounds like you did a wise thing Jim, although I'm not sure how you can know your exact bill unless you are on a meter. I work from home and I don't fancy working in a coat every day...although I did through this winter. I have now invested in a small heater and just heating my office instead of radiators throughout the house. Time will tell whether this will reduce the bills or not. I have no idea how much electric a small heater costs in comparison to a whole house being heated by radiators, but I'm hoping that it will result in lower bills.
Jim, it certainly pays to be frugal with gas/electric considering prices of late, but I feel for pensioners who cannot feasibly be expected to sit around in jumpers and quilts instead of the proper heating we once took for granted.0 -
Working out you bill is easy enough you just need to convert the units used for gas and electric into kWhs, then apply your relevant tarrif and discount. I check my meters every month, just to see how much we have used.
If you have invested in a small electric heater, these are expensive to run. You would be better off in the long run to fit thermostatic valves (TRVs) to your rads, so you only heat the rooms you want, to the temperature you want.0 -

Does this EnergyOnline Extra Saver Version 13, tariff have any cancellation fees or lock in periods?0 -
For me, v13 and v12 have identical unit prices but v13 is slightly more expensive due to it having a lower discount. This is in the Merseyside area.0

No, there are no cancellation fees and you can come off the tariff at any time :T
Hope this helps.
