    Try https://www.toysrus.co.uk

Remember for a 3 years old it will be outgrown before worn out.

    Hi Thesaurus

We bought our youngest sons first 'real' bike from JJB Sports. It had stabilisers and cost less than £50. With our older children (we weren't mse'rs then) we went to local bike shops and paid a lot more for something that did the same job.

Look at high street chains and search on the internet to find the best price. Remember at this age your child will grow out of the bike quite quickly. If you see something you like then click on pricerunner or kelkoo in the blue bar at the top of this board to find the best price. By clicking on those links it helps this site.

dont think that you need to find a bike with stabalisers already on them.

if you see one that you like which doesnt have stabalisers on them, no problem, you can buy stabalisers from halfords for around a tenner.

  • Most of our kids bikes have been second hand and have been almost new. They grow out of the frame so quickly. Try your local bike shop for tradeins or the local newspaper.

I would buy second hand too if possible.Even if it is for his birthday, providing it looks ok, as he is not of an age where he would know or mind!

If you do purchase one make sure that the stabalizers are removable!

It's a good idea to look for one that has two brakes too. Some of the cheaper ones only come with one.
  • dont think having two brakes is that important to be honest, my 3 year old learned on a bob the builder bikeh stabilisers and it wasnt until he progressed to the no stabiliser stage that he worked the whole break issue out, his bike didnt have proper tyres just hard plastic wheels so he never picked up enough speed to need 2 brakes, he was more concerned about ringing the bell !!!

Isn't the one brake thing a safety issue?
I thought the idea was that they had the one brake on the back to stop the young child pulling only on the front brake and going "head over heels " if they'd built up speed.
In other words getting a bike with the one brake at that age isn't a problem.
  • My 5 yo nephew has just come back from the Netherlands with a shiny new bike. And no brakes on the handlebars. Yikes!! just a backpeddle brake.
