Dog smell in carpets. What should I do???

Hi all,
Got a big problem with my house.
I had tenants staying at my house in Brighton and they had Dogs. Eventually they did a runner but the house now smells of dogs really strongly.
I've had the carpet cleaned but (maybe because it hasn't been aired since) the smell is still pretty strong. What do you think I should do?
1) Air the property properly and see if anything changes
2) Get it cleaned again
3) Get some kind of odour remover (any recommendations?) as the carpets are actually clean now
4) Replace the carpet and get new carpets fitted?
Please help!
Thanks.

I think you'll have to get new ones hun. If they've wee'd it will have gone down into the underlay.
Try opening the windows every day for a week, maybe burn a couple fo incence sticks? it's a nightmare to get rid of though.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Get them cleaned again
If the smell is still there then maybe going to the expense of changing the carpets.

I would replace the carpets.
You can write what you like in the contract, but that does not stop tennants keeping pets and if they have done a runner chances of getting compensation are nill.

spose you could fabreze them and look to rent to other pet owners , then new carpets when they go
chances are the dog wee has soaked through into the underlay as said above0 -
If it's urine it may have soaked into the floorboards too: if so it's hell to get rid of.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Try Neutradol carpet powder, put it on really thickly , might need a couple of tubs of it, brush it in well and leave overnight. (Might need a dust mask). Next day hoover it up. Obviously if it's dog urine, underlay/ floor boards may need treating too.
I bought a house where dogs had been locked in conservatory, which stank to high heaven. We ripped up carpets and underlay which were wrecked and repeatedly washed and bleached floorboards, to no avail. Tried Neutradol on the wooden floorboards as a last resort and it worked like magic in one application. Worth a try...got to be cheaper than new carpets!0 -
Neutrodol powder works wonders, much better than febreze or similar products.0

Hi,
Neutradol works great! I would advise against Febreze or other fabric refresher type products. This is because there is a possiblity it can leave a slight residue in the carpet pile, which will attract more dirt.Profit=sanity

there is an excellent product by Petfresh (www petfresh co uk) if you can identify particular problem spots/areas
if you can't they also have something to help find old stains
spray on liberally and leave ... no after vacuuming or scrubbing etc
I do not have any association with them whatsoever, but I did have a puppy, and I now have hard wood floors throughout the house0 -
on how clean is your house they use bicarb of soda, just sprinkle it on like shake n vac leave overnight then hoover up they reckon it works0
