Recording Video onto DVD Expertise please!

Need some assistance if possible please experts!

I have been trying to convert some videos to DVD format.

I have connected via scart cables and copied one video, only to discover that the sound on the DVD is garbled!

I have ensured I used a scart with a full set of "prongs" on both connectors connecting the video to DVD as I thought this might have been a problem but on attempting a second time, there is some improvement but its not brilliant.

Any ideas what could be causing this? Thank in advance.

You are connecting a VHS machine to a DVD recorder? are there any other outputs from the VHS other than scart? and is there a composite camcorder input on the DVD (yellow black/white and red sockets)?

    Yes.

Yes on the DVD, but not on the video player. There is an S-cable connection on the video but not on the DVD.
