Painting plastic garden arch

I bought a plastic garden arch with planters in Homebase sale for only £5 but it's very bright white and sticks out like a sore thumb in my garden.
Any ideas what sort of paint I could use to tone it down a bit, I was thinking of a dark green or brown colour. The plastic has a rough texture so not sure if I would need to use one of those plastic primers?
