Slip coupling 110mm

Anyone know the best way to easily slide a slip coupling over a pipe? At the moment i have been trying with washing up liquid but its still very hard. It gets stuck on one side and then i cant move it across.

This is the type of pipe section i am using:

A lube like THIS works better than washing up liquid.

Other than that, there's no special trick, just a bit of twisting, wobbling, pushing, pulling and levering. But make sure the rubber isn't twisted. Oh, and make sure you champfer the end of the pipe you are pushing onto. The end comes champfered, but if it's a cut end you are going onto a quick file will do the trick.

    Mark.
  • make sure it is clean and try putting the coupling in to warm (not boiling) water before putting it on the pipe
    baldly going on...
  • ...and ONLY the coupling! pointless warming both

I understand that you are trying to use it as a slip coupling, not a standard coupler. In that case you need to remove the 'nib' shown on the photo. This will allow you to push it full length on one pipe, align the other, then push it back half way. Mark the second pipe with a half coupler length mark to show they are roughly equal.

The picture that you show does not appear to be that of a slip coupling. As a&akay says, you would need to remove the nib inside, for it to be able to be used as a slip coupling.
I can afford anything that I want.

Thanks for the tips. Yes i knocked the little nibs out before trying to slip it on. But still very hard even with water and liquid squirted on. I have managed to get it on although not sure if its equal from both sides. The pipe on the right side was kept shorter for the left side of the pipe to be closer to the middle. Quite an awkward space to work in and not enough length of pipe. Here is a pic:

Also i was wondering if it would be easier to use something like this:

Anyone know where i could buy one from? thanks

Any plumbers merchant should sell those they are normaly sold for connecting cast iron to plastic.

From your Photo I dont really understand why you need the slip coupling at all? can you not just put a peice of pipe between the clay and access chamber? can you side the clay pipe adapter down the plastic at all? So you can fit it all in.

Oh dear. I didnt think of trying it that way but it would have been much easier. And yes it probably would be possible to slide the adapter up the connecting pipe then back on to the clay. I was going to try it now and remove the coupling but it seems to be stuck on even harder. So maybe i will have to leave it. thanks
