Wooden floor soundproofing on concrete floor

Hi I want to put down Engineered wooden flooring , I live in a flat that is of concrete construction and then has a layer of cork tiles. Can any one suggest a soundproofing that I could put down to ensure that foot fall and airbourne noise is reduced? Has anyone used a particular soundproofing board?

Many thanks

    Hi

First I would check your lease to see if you are allowed to put in wooden floors. I'm presuming you have neighbours below you? My upstairs neighbour had hers done whilst I was in the process of buying my flat. She did put in sound proofing but unfortunately this did nothing to resolve the noise as it sounded like she was walking in clogs right next to me! The other issue was impact (prob won't be a problem with concrete but you never know).

She had to carpet over it after the 3 years it took me to get her into court. 7 years later we don't even acknowledge each other and only communicate via her solicitor which is an ongoing cost. Hugely expensive process all because she didn't consider the person below.

I would advise for neighbourly relations that you speak to your neighbours if you haven't already and check your lease for clauses which relate to floor covering.

    Hi,

With a wood flooring you are always goint to have that 'clip-clop' noise problem, whatever goes under it. My advice would be to

-firstly use a layer of accoustic fibreboard over the concrete subfloor. This basically creates a bit of a sound cushion between the concrete and your noisy floor.

-secondly, use a dense domestic wood flooring underlay. A lot of these are proven to provide a good degree of impact sound insulation. Try these best sellers: TIMBERMATE XL/ SONIC GOLD/ CUSH N WOOD. I would avoid the cheap and cheerful underlays and go for one of these! They are available at :
