  • We have been to the Tooties in Oxford and Reading. I prefer the Oxford one, as the atmosphere is a bit nicer...

The burgers are ok. They won't cook them to order, so you need to like yours well-done. I've had the chili burger, which is nice. I didn't care for the blue cheese and mushroom burger. I've also had their Smokey Chicken Salad, which was very nice.

Overall, Tootsies does what it says on the box. My biggest complaint about Tootsies is that they add on an automatic 12.5% service charge to you bill. I wrote to them to complain about this. Living in Reading, I've got plenty of restaurants to choose from who don't add a service charge. While I realize I can ask to remove it, I think it's poor customer service to automatically charge you for service, and then embarrass you (or your server) to have to ask to remove it.

My verdict is the food is ok (nothing speical or spectacular about it) and the service is usually pretty good (but I'd prefer to leave my own tip, not be charged for it). Given the choice of where I live, I ususally choose to go to other restaurants in my area.

we went to tootsie in Portsmouth on Saturday using the 50% off voucher from MSE

they were busy but we did not have to wait too long, service was excellent

There were 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 children

I thought that the food options were good for meat eaters but lacked a bit for vegetarians - I thought the children menu was good

we has a fondue starter for just under £8 - not that impressed with it as there were not really enough things to dip into the fondue (which was not a proper fondue, more of microwaved cheese with some tomato sauce)

for the main they all had steak which was apparently very good, the chips were very dry however and it would have been nice for there to be some sort of salad garnish, they did however give a great selection of relishes if you wanted them - I had fish and chips and the fish was very big but a bit watery but I have had worse

The puddings were great - I didn't find anything that I really liked on the adults menu but I did on the kids and we all thought that the puds were wonderful, I had the cheesecake from the kids menu and it was plenty big enough for me, the children had a waffle with ice cream and berries and fruit fondue - they also got a little cup of hot chocolate for free

Overall I thought it was good for a chain of restaurants, I thought the children's menu was good with plenty of choice - with the 50% off voucher is was good but without it I think I would have been disappointed in the quality for the price we would have had to pay

to sumerise - childrens menu and service is excellent, everything else prety bog standard
  • We had an appalling experience of customer service (or rather, lack of it) in the Oxford restaurant. Everthing was terrible - it took us over 3 hours to complete the meal;staff were unhelpful;service incredibly slow (obviously - we don't eat that slowly!);and the food was definitely not worth waiting for - my coleslaw was hot where it had been shoved under a grill to keep the rest of the food on the plate warm. We did complain and receive an apology and were not charged for our deserts but that really didn't make up for the whole disappointing experience. And then to cap it all the waiter moaned when we refused (quite rightly) to pay the extra (voluntary) service charge!! Unless you're dying of starvation and there is no alternative avoid Tootsies and Dexters.
  • The food was very slow to arrive inspite of few other diners in the restaurant on Sunday lunch time. Chilli burgers arrived with cold burgers and cold chilli (not very appealing!) although other meals were OK. Not great value for money and generally disappointing experience to be avoided....

Have just been to Tootsies Norwich - wasn't impressed. Not a great choice of menu & when the food finally came it was cold! Service not too good either - thank goodness for the £10 off. And had I not checked the bill we would have paid the service charge & left a tip!

Not one I'd recommend or visit again in a hurry
  • We visited Tootsie and Dexters in Richmond a couple of months ago using the 50% off vouchers. My strong recommendation is dont bother if you were thinking of going there. the service was poor, the food was less that average and had we have been paying the full price I would have refused to pay the bill.Other restaraunts in the deals section such as Strada, Prezzo and Pizza Express all offer better quality food at more reasonable prices.

Visited Dexters in Weybridge on Sunday at around 2pm so not busy at all. Menu for children very good - enough to choose from on Adult menu too. Food took along time to arrive - although all freshly cooked. Did not like the automatic 12.5% tip already added. Had a £10 off voucher - this just about covered the service charge - Not a cheap meal out for 2 adults & 2 children.

Went to Dexters bury St Edmunds £12.95 for a (tiny) microwaved shared starter, average burgers with average chips served in sugar basins and sloooow service. Glad I didn't pay full price for it all, wouldn't return.
  • Visited Tootsie in Birghton twice this week twice so far. Had big breakfast it was the best breakfast ever. Had evening meal could not fault it. Using 50% off voucher good value, not so good if you had to pay full price. Arrived early 6.30 service ok but noticed later in evening staff could not cope people left before ordering . Not enough staff (not their fault) only 3 staff on duty needed more. Will be there again today.
  • We dined in the Bluewater restaurant yesterday and the staff were polite and helpful, but the food was not so good.

One dish has so much gristle on the meat that it was pretty much inedible
On asking to send the dish back for replacement the manager was very helpful, but commented that the other meat would be from the same batch and therefore likely to be the same! This was not encouraging and doesn't give me any faith in their quality control standards.

The dishes seemed highly priced for what they were so we were glad we had the £10 off voucher. I would advise to use alternative restaurants which have voucher offers shown on this site, as I have had much more enjoyable meal experiences at many of them. We will not be rushing back to Tootsies.
