Halifax !!!! up - what are my rights?

Hi,

I used Halifax banks online service on Sunday 8th March 09 and made a payment using their FasterPayment service of £351.74 to the CSA. I then received an email saying it had been unsuccessful. I re-submitted the payment and got a success email, only to find that it had actually been taken twice!

I called Halifax immediately and they confirmed it was a bug in their software, not to worry and it would be back in my account in 20 minutes. I checked again in an hour and no sign of the re-credit to my account.

I called again on Monday 9th to advise and again was told not to worry and it would be sorted within 30mins. When checking again later in the day, still no money.

I called again and was told that the money had gone to the third party and was now my responsibility to get it back. I asked to speak to a manager who confirmed they would in fact retrieve the money for me as it was their mistake.

It is now nearly 2 weeks later - no money, no contact, no apology. I've called and spoken to the same manager and said if the cash is not back in my a/c by COP today then I will take this further. I have also asked for compensation for the phone calls I've had to make (£15)

Can anyone recommend what action I should take if (as is likely) Halifax fail to deliver again?

You're pursuing it the right way.

Go to their site and search for 'complaints' and that will tell you the stages to go through.

I doubt very much you'll have to go all the way to the Ombudsman.
