Hi,
Sorry to be a little vague, but wondering if any landlords etc can help....
My OH is starting a new job in Preston in a 4 weeks time, however, I will still be based in Yorkshire. We want to rent somewhere for around 6 months, that is somewhere inbetween Preston and the edge of West Yorks(poss around a half hour drive each way??) and until we find somewhere to buy. Can anyone recommend some nice areas in the Bolton/ M61 type areas? We don't know a jot about where is nice/rough etc, and are looking to spend around £400-500pcm for possibly a 2 bed for at least 6 months.
Thanks!

£500 will get you either a 2 bed flat or a terrace, depending on area. Westhoughton is a nice bit of Bolton, not too far from the motorway. Horwich is also good for motorway, there's a fairly sizeable new estate right by the junction which might be a good plan. I would personally steer clear of anything town centre, as it has a bit of a reputation! Next junction down is Chorley, although this will add about 10mins to your commute time to Yorkshire. Again, steer clear of town centre but there's a big estate called Gillibrands which has newish flats on it. Have you tried www.upmystreet.co.uk lots of info on there.Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.0

I think it would be hard for someone to tell you where all the nice/rough places would be in such a large area. I'd suggest you need to think about where would be best for your life outside of work - North Manchester might be a good compromise.
We currently rent in Prestwich which is good for access to Manchester and also to our home town of Preston - 30 minutes drive to Preston in quiet traffic but can be over an hour at peak times (depending on where exactly in Preston, the city centre can be a nightmare to drive into). As far as West Yorkshire's concerned that's quite a large area so I won't be hazarding a guess at that!
The only experience I have of Bolton is living is Ainsworth for a short time which, as it's to the east of Bolton, probably wouldn't be the best for you as you have to go through the town centre to get to the motorway. You should be able to easily get a 2 bed anywhere around Bolton for £500 though.0
