Scottish Power aggressivness

Hiya, ok the thread title is probably a bit strong but.. we decided to leave Scottish Power after around 12 months of having their supply for electricity. This threw up a huge final bill for £511 despite the fact we were paying double in direct debits than for the previous supllier. We were horrified, but it seems that we owe the money. We recieved the first letter beginning of Feb, and I rang to dispute the amount, the second 'red reminder' came a week later threatening legal action. The following week we were away, and returned to find a letter from SPM collections, only two weeks had elapsed since the first bill. I rang them up and made arrangement to pay over 90 days, which was what they were offering. I offered to make the first payment on the telephone, but that was declined because she had to set up a standing order for 90 days. The first payment is due on the 30th of this month. The following evening, I recieved a call from Scottish Power demanding to know why I hadnt paid, I explained that I had made arrangements. Around 5 days ago, I recieved a letter from buchananclark + wells, for the amount of £511 plus 13% to compensate Scottish Power!! I rang Scottish power immediately, and was told to ignore the letter, that it had been sorted out and I would recieve no more. Today, 5 days later!! I have recieved another letter from buchananclark, a 'formal demand' and they are threatening to apply a 35% charge to the account....what on earth is going on with these people, as far as im concerned there is a payment coming out in 10 days, anyone got any advise? is this legal? or fair? It has bearly been a month since we recieved the original letter

  • Have you spoken to complaints?

I appreciate why they would want to set up a standing order but I'm surprised they didn't take an initial payment to start with then make a 90 day arrangement.

They normally expect half the bill to be settled before they accept a payment plan iirc.

I presume the readings are actual reads signified by an (A) or (C)?
