Toyota RAV4 - side swinging rear boot door - first thing that came to mind.
    Nice looking vehicle, reliable.

Land Rover Freelander - same swinging rear door, similar to Rav4 but not such a great reliability record.

If you could buy new, if you could wait until late summer this year and if you could manage a split rear tailgate (not a swing door) the Skoda Yeti looks tempting:

    Too many if's may be.

The Suzuki Jimny isn't up to much according to What Car, too many compromises in the way the car drives, only 1 out of 5 stars .

If only Honda put the powered tailgate of the Honda Accord in the Honda CRV 4x4 that would solve the problem a different way

Thanks Adrian - that looks really interesting. Knowing what a procrastinator I am it might well be late summer before I get round to serious searching anyway

I've been looking at the Terios' since this thread started. There may be an option here.... How about a new Terios....

BUT - then take off the externally mounted rear wheel and add a can of tyre weld. If you are finding boots difficult you would find a wheel change equally hard - if not impossible anyway, and would always have the option of the RAC/AA etc to get you out of a problem. The can of tyre weld would act as a complete emergency and also to make the car legal to run without the spare wheel. Without the spare wheel the new Terios is almost 6" shorter.

  • Just wanted to point out that the new style Honda CR-V's have an up and over style boot door which is very light. The previous model had a regular door style opening but was very heavy as the spare wheel was stuck on the back. I don't think either models would be suitable for the OP. HTH :)
