Absolutely - that's what they say. But surely if the 2003 version with an annual subscription didn't work any more you'd expect them to stop allowing subscriptions, since it would be useless?
It's very hard to overcome the suspicion that they just want people to buy a new version every year.
Beside the real reason Symantec don't support Norton 2003 is much more simple - there is no copy protection on it, so you can install it on multiple machines. You can also install it again at a later date and get a year's subscription to updates from the date you install it!! So when your subscription runs out you can reinstall Windows on a PC and the reinstall Norton and get another year's full cover. That's why they want people to ditch it.
By the way - Far Cry really is one of the best games out there - especially if you enable the cheats so your kids don't get killed every 5 minutes - although I really hate having to fight the Trigens cos they're a bit scary when they jump at you.
