I was an abbey customer for years .I never had a problem with them .
I recently tried to open a joint account with abbey and despite having a credit score off 999 which is as good as you can get I was refused .
I was then offered a basic account .I was told by the call centre I didnt need to make an appointment at the branch to open the basic account .The branch said I should have made an appointment by phone .The branch number is not listed ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -
that is a bit crap Old Git
Nice name btw, wish I'd had it!
My step father should have had it. But I think Miserable Old Git would have been better.
My OH I sometimes call it (only cos he's a bit tight now and then, well actually, all the time)Be happy, it's the greatest wealth0 -
If you go to any abbey branch, they can look up on their systems and give you a direct phone number for any branch, which in my experience they always answer pretty quickly!0

I confess I struggled to find the right place to post this.
It is relevant in that I wanted to save with Abbey and I also wanted to put off anybody else who was tempted to do that.
We could probably do with an 'Abbey complaints' thread!0 -
Can only agree with you.
Abbey in my experience are a b* shambles, they screwed up several of my and my family's accounts, were thoughtless and rude to a relative who lost a spouse and all we encounted for a year or more was appalling service and rude staff. We closed all our accounts, and would never bank with them again. Considering one was a large business account - they did little to keep our custom.
I've had accounts with TSB since I was a teenager and never had a serious problem, and anything minor was sorted out very quickly.
Nearly every week the broadsheet Money sections on Sunday try to help people with continual Abbey problems. If they offered a 10% account I'd not go near them with a bargepole.
I now keep these type of accounts with private banks and the service and quality is outstanding.0 -
They sent me the wrong account number and I transferred 10K into someone elses account. Really difficult to chase 'cos before they will do anything they want yr account no - but I only had the incorrect one. It did get sorted & I did get the money back - but it took hours on the phone; conversations with many different people all of whom knew nothing of previous conversations. I was not allowed to email anyone specific, and no-one was allowed to email me ( internal emails only) - which made tracking what was happening impossible. I think there was a vague apology - but not a hint of compensation. I did wonder how many others had been given the wrong account no - was I just the unlucky one.0
