I know I'm really stupid and I'm sure I've just put it in a safe place
but I can't find the reciept.
Our portable dvd player which we brought from Aldi on 13 Nov 08 is no longer working and the guy on the helpline happily told me to post it back to them with the fault card and the reciept. Is there any other way round this? I would have purchased it on card so can prove that I made a purchase from Aldi on that day for that amount.

Yes, a credit card statement or bank statement is sufficient proof. You have to provide proof of purchase, it doesn't have to be a receipt.0

Thanks for answering. I forgot to mention that the guy on the helpline is from the manufacturer, not Aldi. My bank statement shows that I spent an amount in Aldi around the time I said I purchased it, do you think sending a copy of the bank statement with the Aldi transaction highlighted on it will be enough. Or if I took the statement to Aldi would they provide something to send?Debt Free: 01/01/2020

Your contract, and therefore who you should go back to is ALDI.
Re posting it back, if you do end up doing this, (and you shouldn't), you should not be paying for postage for a faulty item, it is also within the "6 month rule", i.e. no proof from you re fault.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
So I should take it back to Aldi with my bank statement and ask for a refund rather than sending it back to the manufacturer to have it repaired or replaced?
This is what is says on the Aldi website :
"In the first instance, you'll probably get your problem resolved faster and more efficiently by contacting the manufacturer direct - and this Helpsite contains all the relevant contact information you will need to take the matter further."Debt Free: 01/01/2020

Aldi may SAY that but as its less than 6 months old I think the fault would probably be deemed to be present when you bought it and Aldi should sort it out. They will probably be slow though and, be warned, they can be a real pain if you haven't got the receipt. Be prepared to stick your heels in.ELITE 5:2

Okay, thank-you very much. I'll go to Aldi (should I phone first?) and ask them to sort it out. As it was a special I don't think it's something they stock all the time so I guess they'll have to either offer me a refuned or send it off themselves. It has got a scratch on the top of it although this has nothing to do with it not playing, I hope they don't say we've not looked after it properly.Debt Free: 01/01/2020
