Account that accepts dollar deposits?

The salary for my next job will be paid in US dollars. So I need an account that will accept these without converting them to sterling at some stupid exchange rate. Any suggestions?
An account in the USA would be ideal, but I am British and will be working in Africa. If anyone knows a US bank that would accept me, please let me know. (Salary payments will come out of an office in the USA, near Washington.)

I believe if you open a Citibank account in the UK you can then open foreign accounts through them. However even if you can't they have US dollar accounts based in the UK.0
