My rights with hair removal cream

Options
I've got a problem, hope someone can help me with.

Wednesday night i used some Nair hair removal cream. Its literally burnt patches of my skin off my face

I done everything that it says on the box correctly, i only had it on for not even a minute when it started burning so i cleaned it off immediatly. I would hate to see what damage it would of done if i had left it on for the full 3 minutes.
I was in dreadfull pain all night and its still stinging even now and starting to scab. My face looks awfull, people have been staring at me aswell!

I was just going to leave it as a lesson learnt but DP said i should complain to them but i'm not sure of my rights. What do you reckon?

Any help much appreciated :j

  • Normally they say on the box to test a small patch 1st incase you react so if you didn't do that I dont know how much notice they will take. Have you used the product before?

It still might be worth a complaint though

IIRC the instructions in the box tell you to do a patch/sensitity test before you use the product.....

I sympathise because I can't use veet without the same reaction......and yes, I learnt the hard way too;)

If the instructions told you to do a patch test and you didn't I don't think there is much you can do. It might be worth writing to them as they may be interested in what reactions people have (and you may get a freebie!). I am not sure you really have the right to complain though. Any product that can dissolve hair is clearly going to contain some powerful chemicals so I think we need to take responsibility when trying these products. I had a bad reaction to a facial wax myself (I looked like a freak), but just chalked it up to experience.
  • Thanks for the replys. :T

Sorry should have been a bit clearer, Thats the thing, i did do a patch test monday night and it was fine. The hair came away fine, it was a little bit red but i expected that, it didnt hurt at all. I was then going to carry on and do the whole thing tuesday night but didnt have the time so done it wednesday night instead.

I've taken some pictures of the damage on my mobile just incase.

Did you have anything else on your face at the time? If you had makeup residue or moisturiser then this could have made it react (as far as I know you do have to apply to a clean skin). As others have said, anything that removes hair this way is bound to be harsh so if you have a tendency to be sensitive then you maybe need to leave this kind of product alone. Get in touch with the manufacturer about this and see what they say, I don't think you would be the first person to complain. Keep all the packaging of the product too as they may want barcode/batch code details.

Just out of interest, did you get this from a reputable retailer? (It could have been out of date, sub standard stock maybe)?
