(Im voting LD by the way- if im still here! and would dearly love to see a hung parliament, or a power share of some sort. this has been mooted in the past, so could be possible)0

I'd happily witness the members of our 'lower house' receive a brisk public flogging, but I do think seeing them all "hung" is a bit extreme Lynz
After all, isn't there a good use for the rope?0 -
Politicians don't normally say this sort of thing! Will he now be accused of talking down the economy? Or is he just being honest?
"In a hard-hitting speech in London, the Tory leader painted a picture of the problems facing the country in the current recession, predicting that economy could shrink by as much as 10 per cent - the technical definition of a depression."

I don't disagree with Mr Cameron but I think the Tories and the conservative press are gearing up for the General Election, and this is part of the rhetoric.
Bear in mind that during the October banking crisis, when things were really touch and go, all the parties decided to pull together and be 'friends', and it even looked as if a National Government might be on the cards. In some ways it's a good sign we're back to the old oppositional politics.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -
Is it possible for us to revitalise manufacturing, when everyone on a forum like this is focused on paying lowest price?
At the same time as wanting low prices, we also expect work benefits, H & S, fair working practices and so on.
Can we square this circle?
If your answer is yes, then this means you will chose to pay more for your goods when given a choice. For example double the price for a DVD.0 -

The jobsworths in the council, the 'elf-'n'-safety zealots, outreach co-ordinators, the 'umin-rights cry-babies, the form-fillers and box-tickers, 'computer says no' half-wits.
Pretty much every 'job' advertised in the Gaurdian since 1997 is a nonsense and should be got rid of, saving a huge amount of tax.
All the fluff must be swept away. Only those that graft deserve a decent wage.
Just as a matter of interest, what do YOU do for a living? Anything productive? You post at all times of day so are either retired or working age but not working. I seldom have chance to browse forums, but then I WORK for a living (self-employed). Don't understand how 'working' people can post on these forums throughout the day.0 -

If Cameron is right about a 10% drop in GDP, that would actually be far worse than Britain experienced in the 30's Depression!
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article5661374.ece
"In the early Thirties, GDP plunged by about 5 per cent." I've seen 6% mentioned in other places.
"At the same time, share prices tumbled by more than two-fifths [40%] from their peak, and the unemployment rate doubled from 7 per cent to 15 per cent."
So, if we compare with the 30s, if GDP drops 5-6%, that is a depression!0 -

I know, but there are people who routinely post from early morning to late night and give the impression that they are employed. Unless they don't sleep then when do they work? Is it that they are posting during working hours using their employers time and computer?
I think that before anyone criticises the occupation of others (e.g. the public/private sector debate etc etc) then they should have the guts to firstly state what they do for a living.0 -

Yes, I know. But its interesting to look at the posting history of one or two people on this forum - they seldom miss an hour between 8am and midnight, right through the week!0
