I've been trying to get a computer to connect to the net through dial up. Every time it dials out, I can hear it dial the number, then immediately it gives a beeping sound (like an engaged tone), then it tells me there is no answer.
I've tried everthing I can think of to get it to connect and have now resorted to banging my head against the screen (this isn't working, but it feels good).
I've tried..............
New drivers......modem is working fine according to device manager.
Checked the phone numbers/passwords/username (at least ten times over). They are all correct.
Checked ALL the settings connected to the modem and it all looks fine.
Anyone got any other ideas before I launch the computer out of the window?

Have you tried deselecting "Wait for dial-tone?"
What do you hear if you dial the number manually on your regular phone?

If the CLI is withheld, you need to prefix the number with 1470, in the DUN. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

The phone works fine, just as normal. I had already tried deselecting 'wait for dial tone'.
There was no mention about the 1470 setting in DUN.
This is a telewest dial up service I'm trying to connect to using a Telewest line. The dial up number is just 179 with no area code. I've just had a browse through their site and found a couple of DNS server addresses I didn't try in the beginning. I've had to phone these through, the computer is not at my home address. I'm hoping that this will help!!!

If dialling out to a Blueyoner server on a non-telewest line use 0845 11205500
