Proof of no claims

Bit of a story here, but need some help.
My mrs had car insurance for 5 yrs with rac (have copy of letter with 5yrs no claims on it) expired jan 2007. We then changed to swift cover For 1 year (didnt get proof of no claims as we stopped policy in nov 2008 due to car being off road with engine problems, didnt get sorn or anything. We then started insurance with Tesco, did it all on-line with a cheap quote hence 5yrs no claims, then they bumped up the price as we had a gap in the no claims ie. the swift cover bit - so we basically started for 1yr no claims again.
Question is, we are looking at changing insurance to LV, so we say 6 yrs no claims or 1?
any help appreciated, and thanks for taking the time to read.

Your 5 years is still valid. When you cancelled in 2008, their cancellation confirmation should have confirmed the 5 years (assuming no claim made during that part year). If not ask them for confirmation to use as proof. (Most insurers won't accept copy letters, and in any case many will say your letter from Jan 2007 is too old).
That 5 years (not 6) is all you have as the part year doesn't count.
As not many companies will take NCD that is more than 2 years old, the proof from 2008 is important to get.0
