Part time uni student loan?

Options
I am applying to study foundation degree of ICT on part time based. Due to my low income, I could have maximum fee grant and maintenance grant. But I would love to be able to take out an £1000 to cover my annual travel, I could easily pay it off in 6 months-12 months.

But I couldn't find any info about maximum loan a part time student could take out, so I would love to have some help here :)

Thanks :A

Part time students aren't eligible for any Student loans or Maintenance Grants. If your income is low you can take out a grant to pay the fees and there will be a small amount over for materials. As you're part time the assumption is that you're in employment or on benefits so no money is paid for living expenses.

I emailed the college I am applying to, the admin said I could have a student loan as it is a foundation degree. Would it possible the college itself could offer me one?

Foundation degrees can be full or part time; are you sure that this one is part time? If they've said you can get a Student Loan either it's full time or there's been a misunderstanding. How long is the course and for how many days?

Edit: The UCAS website doesn't list any part time IT courses, so, are you sure it is?

The course is foundation degree ICT- networking and ICT system support by middlesex uni, delivers in southgate college. Part time option wouldn't be found in UCAS website as I need to apply direct to southgate college.

There are no loans available for part time students; not through student finance at least.

OK, I've found the course you're talking about.

However, as was said before, there's no Maintenance Grant or Student Loans for part time courses so I think there's been a misunderstanding somewhere. Check with the college that they know you're doing the part time course. It sounds as if they're new to this and may have misunderstood the situation, particularly if you've spoken to one of the academic staff! Student Services/Welfare Office will be able to put you straight on the funding.

I guess I couldn't get a student loan, how about an overdraft from a bank?

I have bad credit rating, not through bad debt or anything, is just when i turned 18, i applied a few credit cards and all application has been rejected. I have a few grands in saving, and my income is £1012 monthly, have a mobile contract.

I'd ask on the Loans Board as it's not really anything to do with being a student.

Why are you going part-time on a course that's often only one day a week of attendance anyway? You would normally top-up your attendance with work experience, which can be paid if you are employable in the field. You are then entitled to a full student loan and maintenance grant - I know someone who holds down a full-time job and is on the foundation degree 'full-time'.

I am also starting this course in September, through Bromsgrove New College.
I have been informed that students can get a grant for course fees and transport only.
It's a part time course running for three years, one evening a week. I am seeing the student councilor this week hopefully, to arrange this, and will post the results as soon as I get them.
