Abbey have expired another overdraft...

Abbey expired my husbands £1000 overdraft in January which we are now paying back at £40 due to financial hardship. We had another overdraft with the abbey for our joint account which was £1000. I have just had a slip of paper from them telling me that overdraft will expire on the 1st may. this is the account that we pay all our bills and direct debits through....everything really.
The account is usually up to its limit but there has been no charges on this account for a very long time and it has been well managed. When i spoke to the abbey they said because my husbands other account had not been well managed it had impacted on this account and as he was the lead name on the joint account the overdraft was being "expired".
I'm beyond mad at the abbey. Just when we where getting somewhere near sorted we are being kicked again. I am a full time nursing student and my husband has taken a large pay cut.
My husband opened a new account with the alliance and leicester recently and we are considering moving all our direct debits to this account. I am worried that because alliance and leicester are now part of the santander group that the abbey may have influence on this new A&L account.
Does anyone have any advice??

Abbey and A and L have a joint banking system so I think that you should try another bank such as HSBC.
Good Luck0 -
Abbey and A&L do not share systems. Customers cannot go to A&L and try to transact on an Abbey account. Whatever A&L offer you, Abbey has no influence at all.0

What poster was saying I think is that A&L and Abbey are now part of the same banking group.
It is right though at the moment you can't go into one to conduct business with another.0 -
Yes Santander owned but operate as they did before, ie is completely seperate from one another. However the A&L accounts will bear no relation whatsoever to the Abbey ones. The poster mentioned joint bank systems which is totally wrong and misleading info.0

i keep getting "overdraft unavailable" on my A&L online current account, theres still say £600 spare under it but i find this unnerving as it always said £1000 available before. ive phoned and they say they dont know why its doing this cos we,ve had a review and its supposed to be ok.they put it back to £1000 but each time i go online its back to unavailable again! any ideas?0
