house buying

I want to buy a house for my brother, and have seen the perfect property for him, the only problem is it isn't for sale! Does anyone know how I can find out who the owner is and try and get them to sell it to me?

Put a letter through the door. Make an offer and put a landline number on not a mobile.

Knock on the door and ask them to get in touch if they are considering selling - most people won't be offended. The land registry will tell you who owns what house for around £3.

Remember to check on sites like http://www.houseprices.co.uk/ to see what others in the street sold for. If they are happy there and not planning a move, I can't see why they would sell in the current climate. You would need to make them an offer in excess of the houses's current value to tempt them. Are there really not any houses for sale that will do?
  • I lived in my last house for 27 years. On average about six people a year came round with one reason or another as to why they particularly wanted to buy it.

I eventually sold it last year with outline planning permission to build a $ bed detatched house in the garden at the side.

Looks like I will have to find out who owns it from the land registry, because a friend who lives across the road from the house says the owner rents it out, and she can't remember the owners name.
