Redudancy pay

A friend has been told at work that there will be some redudancies being made, further details will be given at the end of the month, but it's likely he will be one of them.

What is he entitled to? He's been working for the company for 18 months. Is there a basic amount he is entitled to by law? Or a notice period he has to be given?
2p off is still 2p off!

If he is made redundant he will not be entitled to any redundancy payment.
You have to work for a company for 2 years to be eligible.

Notice periods are usually a week or a month, depending on his contract of employment.
