BT Option 3 + Broadband

Hello

I'm currently paying nearly £60 a month for broadband and line rental with free evening and weekend calls. About £22 for the broadband and £36 for line rental charges. This seems a bit steep - is anyone else getting the same for cheaper? Also, i've had a look at Sky packages, and it looks like i could Sky+, free evening and weekend calls and broadband for £39.50 a month, plus BT line rental. How much is BT line rental (- package costs), and are non-free calls/mobile calls more expensive with sky?

Thanks!

BT Line rental is £10.27 pm, BT Unlimited Anytime is £4.85 pm. I don't understand how you can be paying £36 for 'line rental'-presumably you mean line rental and phone calls? Phone and rental should be half that (assuming you are already out of contract).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

In which case, you need to take a long look at the calls costs - if you're on BT's Unlimited Anytime Plan, all 01, 02, 03, 0845 and 0870 calls should be included, so it's calls to mobiles, abroad or other 08/09 numbers which are costing you a lot (about £21).

Check out the HERE link in my signature below. There are some suggestions there for reducing some of those costs.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

The first part in red, is only if you you have registered for paper free billing online and pay by direct debit, otherwise, it's £11.50 for your line rental, and a further £1.50 per month payment processing fee (£4.50 per quarter extra for not paying by direct debit).

The second part in red, i.e. the cost of the anytime call plan is only £4.85 a month if you are on the 12 month renewable anytime call plan otherwise it's actually £5.82 a month for this.

The anytime plan in both cases, will give you a discount of up to 40% off mobile calls too and all calls you need to hang up on or before the hour to make sure they are not chargable within your calling plan.

Call prices to date, are 1.47p per minute evenings (after 6pm through to 6am) and 3.91p per minute during the day.

Weekends are free from midnight Friday through to midnight Sunday to UK landlines and 0845 / 0870 numbers as long as your not dialling an internet connection / using CPS.
  • Please remember that BT on 1st April 2009 is chnaging some prices e.g rental charge is going up by £1 to £12.50 paper billed and £11.25 paperfree billing. Many of the callin plan charges are being increased to allow for VAT rounding which it will make it much easier intead of paying £1.71 for something it will be rounded to £1.75

Also the major increase is the calling features, one will now cost £2.50 per month instead of £1.71 (40% increase), if you do not use your calling features then i would be cancelling them shortly.
