The information given is for the [FONT=Courier New, Courier, mono][SIZE=-1]pop.googlemail.com
Is it different if the email is @gmail.com?

Agreed - both seem to work! What I don't understand is why - when both versions of the address work - new [?UK] user Fred Bloggs now has to register his address as fredbloggs @googlemail.comYour email address works with both @gmail.com and @googlemail.com
Presumably another Fred Bloggs overseas, or wherever it is allowed, could not subsequently register as fredbloggs @gmail.com - so why can't the original one do so? :undecided".....where it is corrupt, purge it....."0 -
When overseas I tried to set my googlemail address up as a gmail address, and I could not have that name as it was taken, not a straight forward name so I think if you set it up here, then it uses in the gmail.

UK users can't have @gmail.com because there was already a company in the UK using the @gmail.com server address, and they either didn't want to sell out to google or google just didn't offer to buy them out. Effectively a copyright exists in the UK for that address. I got my @gmail.com in the UK before they closed it down.0 -

If someone was using the @gmail.com 'server address' then gmail couldn't use it in other countries. It was due to a trademark dispute, but yourusername@gmail.com will still work.0
