I accept ISAs are worthwhile in the right circumstances, but the OP hasn't said how much they are talking about. If it's a couple of hundred quid then paying an extra charge to hold it in an ISA wrapper may not be necessary.0

i have been doing this for just over 2 weeks now
i have been doing skimming the top and long term investments as well
across diffrent sectors
(2 diffrent methods is my portfolio methord at the moment)

Hi thanks for all your tips suggestions and advice - like I mentioned in the first post I'm not looking to do anything yet as I have a big old debt to get rid of and can't risk losing any money. But I will get the books you mentioned (from my library if possible) and have a read through, see what I need to learn, and then hopefully I'll be a lot better grounded when I come to "trade" or invest.End of 2010 I was £8,007.66 in debt
Today's total: £7,297.06

Have a look at www.bullbearings.co.uk ebonylight. It's a fantasy trading site that works like a real one. A good way to have a practice while you're reading up.0

Buy the books yourself, you'll end up needing them and referring to them again and again. If you can't afford to buy the books, you can't afford to deal in the markets.Mmmm, credit crunch. Tasty.0 -

Why not start/run a virtual portfolio with an imaginery amount of money, i.e. £5k, pick 5 stocks/investments and see how you do. There are a number of websites that allow you to run virual/dummy portfolio's (I use https://www.iii.co.uk and monitor a number of porfolio's within it).
